One hundred years ago today, more than two and a half years into the Great War and only a day after the last Porthill Scout was killed in the Great War, Private Reginald Showan 13503, “D” Company, 9th Battalion, North Staffordshire Regiment was killed in action aged 20.
Reginald was a Porthill Scout, and was the tenth of eighteen of our Scouts, that we know of, that were killed in the Great War.
Reginald Leslie Showan b. Wolstanton 1896 – d. France 1917.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
