Last weekend the Group held its third Family Camp. Following on from the successes of 2008 and 2010, we stayed at Kibblestone this year and had our base as the Fox Glen.<\/p>\n

Everyone arrived on the Friday evening and once set up and information about the camp was given out, everyone set off for a tour of the camp site. Once back, after a drink, it was time for one of Paul’s ‘inventive’ wide games! After a quick supper the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts went to bed while their parents were shown how to tie knows and put up a patrol tent accompanied by lots of pizza!<\/p>\n

After a rather chilly night, Saturday morning was\u00a0gloriously sunny and warm and the families were split into teams to\u00a0complete the day’s challenges. Over three bases the teams had to light their own fire, pitch their own patrol tent and take part in a pioneering project. Each challenge was marked and there was a prize at the end of the camp for the family who completed each challenge the best!<\/p>\n

By mid afternoon the challenges were complete, so a break was taken while the young people played on the newly erected swing and then another wide game (in daylight!) was played.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tea consisted of a\u00a0marvelous\u00a0selection of home made pies followed by home made cake and custard, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. After a little time to let tea settle, everyone made their own ovens from a cardboard box, some tin foil and sticks. The oven was heated by tea lights and the ovens were used to cook pizza. While the pizza was cooking, everyone went to take part in the traditional camp fire where everyone had great fun singing lots of silly songs!<\/p>\n

A more subdued supper than the previous night followed (very tired people!) and then everyone turned in.<\/p>\n

Sunday morning came around as warm and sunny as the day before, as everyone tucked into their hearty breakfasts. Packing away started before the start of the Group’s Annual General Meeting.<\/p>\n

At this year’s AGM, we had\u00a0representatives\u00a0from both the District and St. Andrew’s Church. Each of the sections did reports about what they had been up to over the past 12 months and again the Group Scout Leader’s report was, in part, a show of photos so that everyone could actually see what the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts had been doing (see below).
\nAs well as the reports, there were a couple of 10 year service awards given out and Natasha one of our Assistant Cub Scout Leaders was awarded her Woodbadge.<\/p>\n

After the AGM was completed, more packing and tidying was done until our BBQ lunch. The final part of the day came when it was time to hand out the awards for the previous day’s efforts, to say the thanks you’s and close the camp.<\/p>\n

Everyone had a great weekend and we were very lucky to have great weather!<\/p>\n
