{"id":22831,"date":"2015-06-30T12:45:00","date_gmt":"2015-06-30T11:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/porthillscouts.org.uk\/site\/?p=22831"},"modified":"2015-06-30T12:20:39","modified_gmt":"2015-06-30T11:20:39","slug":"armed-forces-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/porthillscouts.org.uk\/site\/2015\/06\/30\/armed-forces-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Armed Forces Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Last Saturday (27th June), the Drum Corps were honoured to be invited to play at the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas near Lichfield for Armed Forces Day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The band took their youngest members from the Cubs, along with Scouts, Explorers and Leaders. Members of the band&#8217;s families also came along for support.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They played firstly, by the Royal Navy&#8217;s Memorial. This was completely in the open and during their performance there were fly overs by helicopters from the\u00a0Defence Helicopter Flying School (DHFS) at RAF Shawbury and Hurricane\u00a0PZ865 (for those interested in such things!) from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Despite these interruptions, the band played on without missing a beat!<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cWLeiTTKx5I?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-GB&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Amongst the members of the public and members of the armed forces, both serving and retired, who watched this performance was\u00a0Ian Dudson, the Lord-Lieutenant of Staffordshire.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After a break where everyone had a look around the Arboretum, the band then played to a larger audience in a marquee next to the visitors centre and entrance.
