One hundred years ago today, 10 months into the Great War, Private Tom Walker Lewis, number 2973 1/5th Battalion Prince of Wales’s (North Staffordshire Regiment), died in hospital in Boulogne after being shot in the head (despite some initial reports that he may survive).
Tom was a Porthill Scout, and was the second of eighteen of our Scouts, that we know of, that were killed in the Great War.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
