Last weekend (10th – 12th July), Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Young Leaders, helpers, parents, friends, Leaders & Beavers-in-Training came together at Kibblestone for our 4th Family Camp.
After getting set up, everyone came together to hear about the programme for the weekend and to find out which team they were in – Sharks, Crocodiles or Spiders! This was followed by a walkaround the site for those who had never visited Kibblestone before (or not been for a while). After everyone returned to the Fox Glen, it was time for a wide game in the teams. A buffet supper was served by our excellent kitchen team followed by bed!
Saturday morning started with a hearty breakfast and flagbreak. Each ofthe teams started the day’s activities which consisted of fire lighting and cooking bread twists, water games and making costumes and flags for their team, along with building a boat out of cardboard.

The activities continued after lunch into the afternoon. Once each team had completed the bases, it was time to play a wide game of capture the flag.
After tea it was time to test the boats. Three brave Beavers volunteered to man the crafts and the boats were placed in the old Plunge Pool and successfully paddled backwards and forwards across the pool. Sadly, one by one, the boats took on water, but they lasted for over 10 minutes!
Then it was time for the traditional campfire, but with a twist! Before the singing was a bush tucker trial which parents, Leaders, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and even our Beavers-in-Training took part! During the campfire Jack came out with a new chant that seems to be an instant classic.
It was then time for supper and bed.
After a night of rain came Sunday morning and another hearty breakfast. After spending time packing and tidying came the Group’s Annual General Meeting. This gave everyone the opportunity to see what the whole of the Group got up to over the past year. Follonig the ‘official’ parts came the best part of themeeting where awards were presented. Our special guest, Deputy District Commissioner Dave Gray, gave the three Beavers who sailed their boats a prize for being so brave, presented two Cubs with their Chief Scout Silver Awards and the presented the Cub of the Year Award and, for the first time, the Scout of the Year Award. Finally, three new Leaders, Jack, Sam & Toby were invested.
A BBQ lunch was followed by the closing of the camp. The winning team of the weekend was the Sharks!
Everyone had a great time and we’re now looking forward to the next Family camp in 2017!
