One hundred years ago today, over two years into the Great War and over 4 months since the start of the Battle of the Somme, Private John Hutchinson Tomlinson, 10541 20th Battalion Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) was killed in action aged just 18.

John was a Porthill Scout, and was the seventh of eighteen of our Scouts, that we know of, that were killed in the Great War. He was also the last of the three Porthill Scouts, that we know of, killed on the Somme.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
