We’ve just come back from a weekend at Kibblestone where we held a Group camp with spooky goings on and fireworks!
The Group hired both the Ronald Copeland Training Centre and the Cub Lair for the weekend. On the Friday evening, the Cubs and Scouts camp out to the camp and the Cubs set up in the Lair and the Scouts in the RCTC. After a quick opening, which included investing one of the Cubs, everyone went for a walk around the very dark campsite. This was followed by a wide game, supper and bed.

On Saturday morning, after breakfast, the Beavers joined us and kicked the Scouts out of the RCTC and into tents! The camp was officially opened and everyone split into their teams (each of which included Beavers, Cubs and Scouts) to carve the pumpkins, and in one case a watermelon, they’d brought with them. This was followed by making Guys for the campfire and lunch.
After lunch, each team made scary spiders, followed the Guy Fawkes (rope) trail, make spooky, gingerbread, houses, played on the gladiator inflatable and collected wood for the campfire. But there was more, by late afternoon it was dark so there was time for a wide game before tea. Quite a busy afternoon!
Following on from a delicious tea, it was time for everyone to put on their fancy dress costumes (and wrap up very warm as well!).

Once everyone had shown off their costumes, it was time for fireworks. These were bought with the proceeds of the summer fair the Beavers and Cubs had done in the summer (see here).
Back from the fireworks everyone went back to the Cub Lair to warm up and play Halloween games – putting the skeleton back together, making Egyptian Mummies and, of course, apple bobbing. While this was happening the Young Leaders started the camp fire. Davo’s ‘magic powder’ made the fire burn green while the Guys were thrown on and everyone enjoyed the traditional Scout Campfire.
Once everyone had calmed down at the end of the campfire, it was time for hot chocolate and hot dogs for supper and bed. The end of a very busy day!
Sunday morning brought a sprinkling of frost on the ground which was combated by a hearty breakfast. It was then time to start packing away and, of course, a trip to the shop.
To end the camp, a Beaver was invested and then the camp closed with everyone going home having had a great time and rather tired!

Many thanks to all the Leaders and parents who helped with the camp.
