Today the Cubs have taken part in the District’s football competition. See below for the report.
Porthill’s Game Reports from The Newcastle District 5-a-side Competition
Porthill 2 – Silverdale 2
Porthill started well and opened the scoring after just 45 seconds, then let Silverdale have an easy equalizer. The score was 1 all at half time. The Manager made a couple of changes and this showed early in the second half with no communication in defence and little help from the bench as Silverdale took the lead. Porthill looked like they were heading for defeat when the feet of a Silverdale defender strayed into the goalies area and a penalty was awarded to Porthill. This was put away to the goalkeepers left! Porthill had couple of chances to win in the remaining time but it stayed all square.
Porthill 2 – Holy Trinity 3
This game started with a disastrous first half and at the break Porthill were 2 – 0 down. This time the Manager didn’t make any changes to his starting line up and this paid off with two quick goals which levelled the score. Porthill were unlucky not to have won this match but the post and then the crossbar saved Holy Trinity. Porthill gave away a free kick and with this last kick of the ball Holy Trinity scored the winner.
Porthill 0 – URC 2
Porthill started this game well and had a hat full of chances to go ahead but at the turn around were down by 1 goal. A couple of changes were made by the Manager, however, this was no good enoughl as URC won by 2 goals!
Porthill 6 – Madeley 0
The first goal came quickly to Porthill and then the flood gates opened and Porthill went on a goal fest scoring 4 in the first half, but could have had more! They dominated the game and scored at will. At half time the Manager said it is a young team and will probably do well in the future. In the second half they carried on pressing for more goals and got another 2. This was the best performance of the day by Porthill.
Porthill 0 – St. Wulstans 3
This was a game on paper Porthill should have won, but in the last of their games the tired legs of the youngsters could not keep up with a much older St. Wulstans team. The score was not important as by this time it was impossible to reach the Final.
The winners were St. Giles & St. Georges.
The team was George, Sam, Connor, Robert, Jack, Phil & Mathew.
Overall the competition was good and the boys who turned up really worked hard and did their best.
Sharon & I would like to thank all who took part with special thanks to the Manager Gary.
