Many Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Leaders and members of the Guide movement, gathered today in Queen’s Gardens to mark the annual St. George’s Day Parade. The weather was kind to us and the turn out was good.
The parade went up the Ironmarket, passed by the War Memorial, where the parade was inspected by the Mayor and the Scout and Guide Commissioners, and then onto a service of celebration at St. Giles’ Church.
The theme this year was the Beaver’s 25th Birthday celebrations.
But this year we had something extra to add. Drums!
After the Remembrance Day Parade last year, it was decided to set up a small drum corps. Having only got their drums in early February, John and the 6 Explorers and Scouts have worked extremely hard and created an impressive sound. This was their first public appearance and they brought up the rear of the parade, prompting Paul to say that it was much easier to march this year as he could actually hear the drums!
After the service, we, as a Group, paraded behind the drums back to Queen’s Gardens to finish the day.
Well done to all the drummers, you have done the group proud!
