Yesterday we took part in the annual St. George’s Day Parade. Over 500 Scouts, Guides and adult volunteers gathered at the Queen’s Gardens in Newcastle.

For the first time it was lead by our Drum Corps, and we believe this is the first time a St. George’s Day parade in Newcastle has been lead by a Scout band actually from Newcastle!
The parade went up the Ironmarket and then to the War Memorial in Red Lion Square where it took the salute from the Scout and Guide District Commissioners as well as the Mayor and Mayoress of Newcastle.

After passing the War Memorial, we gathered in St. Giles’ Church for a service of celebration and a renewal of the Scouting and Guiding Promises. As part of  the service, the Beavers from 107th Westlands acted out the story of St. George and the Dragon and our Drum Corps gave another demonstration of their skills.

This year was thought to be the best turn out for a number of years and St. Giles’ Church was full to capacity!

Many people commented how good the Drum Corps were and we are very proud of them and of the great performances they did on the day.
