2014 marks a very special anniversary for two of the Leaders in our Group. Cub Scout Leader, Sharon Hickton and Scout Leader, Paul Hickton have both been Leaders for 30 years!

Paul was a Cub, Scout and Venture Scout at 50th Bradwell, along with his brother Don and his father Don, who was Cub and Beaver Leader. At Bradwell Paul became an Assistant Scout Leader, Scout Leader and finally Cub Leader. After Bradwell sadly closed in 2005, we forgave Paul as he has always helped out at Porthill, and he became our Assistant Cub Leader and then went on to his current role as Scout Leader.

Sharon was a Bradwell Venture (girls were only allowed to be Venture Scouts in those days) and helped out with Porthill’s Cubs before she could be an official Leader. Sharon first became Assistant Cub Leader and then Cub Leader, the position she is in today.

Both Sharon and Paul have shown such dedication to Scouting in Porthill and Bradwell and have each put in over 30 years of hard work. They have helped so many young people enjoy many varied and exciting activities and helped them to develop into young adults. This they have done while carrying on with normal life and raising two daughters (both of whom I’m sure will be running the Group in the future!).
We are very proud of Sharon and Paul and all they have done for 1st Porthill and all the Scouts they have helped over the years.
Here’s to another 30 years!
